This is a great game. It has been around for a long time so the developers have had enough simulations to work out a lot of the bugs. While not a perfect representation of baseball (there are no passed balls, and too many double plays) it comes as close as I’ve seen. There are a ton of stats, and a lot of the sabermetrics you would want from a modern baseball sim. The game isn’t perfect, pitching and defense is a little too dominate. (Think MLB baseball pre 1969 not MLB 2015) but it is an easy adjustment once you understand the baseball era you are playing in.
If you are going to start playing do yourself a big favor and start off by taking over a team in a private league. Most new players want to start a team from scratch in a public league, and that is a big mistake. Half of the fun is trading players and talking with other owners. Public leagues just don’t have the same level of activity as private leagues. Taking over a team with a history makes it much easier to understand the value of your players.
