GPRO is a fun but very technical simulation of Grand Prix racing. Because of its complexity, it is intimidating for new players, and may become disillusioned and drop out. This is partly because it is hard for beginners to get any useful guidance from the community (it is actually against the rules of the game to publicly divulge anything that might help anyone to win). However, you can join a “team” (really an affiliation of managers who agree to share information) which will usually help you to progress — just like real life, it’s not what you know but who you know. Without a team, you are faced with collecting data over several seasons and understanding that data (and possessing advanced mathematical skills) enough to work out how your car’s settings are affected by the weather, track conditions, driver characteristics, pit crew and a million other things. There are some very clever people in the game who have mastered that, but I am not one of them. Oh, I’ve tried, but failed, and I rely on the skills of others to help me to prepare my car for each race. Yes, I still play (five years and counting) but I will never get beyond Rookie.
