I played STHS for about six months, i could go in great detail about the issues that i had with the game but will not do so because a review ( in my opinion) is the most efficient when written in a short and clear manner, so here we go:
1# System lines as in variations of the standard 1-2-2 dont matter much, and sometimes i had the impression that they dont matter at all. then why have the option to make so many changes in the system lines (points>PHY, DF, OF)?
2# The results (output) seems to only be derived Quality (players) Luck and activity (sending in your updated lines (players), Strategy does not exist as mentioned in the previous point (1#).
Therefore to me the game is rather static in experience, in practicality you only try to trade for players with a ‘better” position value which of course is very difficult because nobody will trade a A quality player for a B one unless they are over there salary cap and make a mistake to make such a trade. So overall quality of your team could only significantly change after 2 real life years. So what you are actually doing is only sending in your player lines (generally every second day) and hope that your youth draft picks will be good ( could take years (RL). A game without the impact of strategy is not a game, Quality of the players should interact with strategy but this is not the case with STHS because strategy is not relevant, you might as well keep everything at the standard 1-2-2 format.
